Outdoor Summer things to do:
 

Nature Scavenger Hunt - grab a jar, paper bag and this list for a fun hunt around your yard or community! 
 
Hawaiian Luau- Grab your lei's, hawaiian shirts and grass skirts!  Click here for ideas, crafts, games, and more.  All you need to provide is some dance moves!

Water Play - Water adds fun to any activity:
     -Paint, Paint, Paint - everyone gets a bucket of water and some large and small paint brushes.  Create a masterpiece on your driveway or sidewalk and don't worry, the sun will clean up the mess.
     -Watering the flowers - find the furthest flowerbed in your yard and try to aim the nozzle just right so the water hits the flowers.  Miss the bed?  Hit your husband?  Got your child wet?  Oh well! 
     -Somewhere over the rainbow - have your children try to guess where the water is going to land based on how you are holding the hose.  They move to that spot - their reward?  Getting wet.  Aim the nozzle high (for a rainbow) or low for a more direct hit.
     -Drip, Drip, Splash - use a large sponge and a bucket of water.  This game is played just like duck, duck, goose.  The goose gets drenched.  To add excitement, instead of having the 'goose' chase the duck around the circle...have the goose try to hit the duck with the wet sponge while the duck makes a full rotation around the circle.  If the duck doesn't get wet, someone will!
 

Rain Makers - Ask your child to think about what rain sounds like.  They will then use their own body to try to mimic different sounds associated with a rain storm.
     Soft rain - snap fingers or tap finders on thighs
     Loud rain - pat hands on thighs or clap hands together
     Thunder - jump to make a 'bang' or stomp feet
     Lightning - brush hands together and extend arms (one forward, one back - think disco move)    
     Drip - tap foot lightly and slowly
     Car tires on a wet street - rub hands together quickly

Bumble Bee, Worker Bee, Queen Bee, Honey Bee - great game for cleanup!  Ask your child to buzz like a bee and show his/her wings.  Call out one of the four types of bees and they have to act like that bee.  Mix up what type of bee you call out, gets them thinking and pretending!
     Bumble Bee - hoovers around from place to place just flittering
     Worker Bee - picks up toys as fast as she can and takes them to her hive (toy box)
     Queen Bee - She relaxes for a second (she can lay down or sit like a queen)
     Honey Bee - she has to fly over and give you a hug or kiss
